Vacancy: ESOL Teacher
Babel’s Blessing is looking for a committed, imaginative, experienced ESOL teacher to run weekly group classes in East London.
We are currently looking for a teacher to run 2 face-to-face classes per week for 2 hours each during term-time. These may be on the same day or different days, based on teacher and venue availability.
Babel’s Blessing offers affordable language courses in order to raise funds to provide free ESOL classes to migrants, refugees and those seeking asylum in the UK. We are looking for teachers with an interest in community education and critical pedagogy, and/or a desire to learn about these.
About Babel’s Blessing:
Babel's Blessing is a grassroots language school. We run low-cost evening classes in diaspora languages, and use the income from this to fund free English classes for refugees and migrants.
We think that language learning is about cultural exchange, community building, and a way for members of diasporic communities to reconnect with their/our heritage. We teach about politics, culture and history through language as it is spoken – valuing street language and varied accents rather than one 'correct' version.
We strive to apply critical pedagogy methods and principles across all our classes, and to run as a horizontal and democratic community of learners. More information about the project can be found on our website.
Location: East London, in and around Brick Lane
Pay rates for group courses:
£22/hour for teaching online
£28/hour face-to-face +travel expenses
£13.50/hour for meetings, training and admin
On a self-employed basis (registered with HMRC).
How to Apply:
Please send us CV to babelsblessing@gmail.com along with a short covering email outlining your interest in the role and organisation, and why you would be suitable.
As an organization which works with migrant and refugee ESOL learners, we particularly welcome applications from people who have experience of migration.
Babel's Blessing is committed to making staff positions accessible to all potential team members, regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity.
Please let us know if you have any questions about accessibility, or if there are any accommodations that would make the application process, or the role itself, more accessible.
